Lawn Seeding Maintenance
in Cape Coral, Florida
We don’t just plant.
We cultivate.
Because your lawn deserves better than best.
Why not seed your lawn yourself?
That’s an easy answer. We’ll get to it.
But let’s understand how tempting it is: all you’re doing is spreading seed across your grass and letting nature do the rest. We get it.
But here’s the truth: it’s not as simple as you might think.
- You have to worry about “aeration”
- You also have to worry about seed-to-soil contact for germination
- And having access to top quality seed? That may be a challenge.
Or worse…. A hefty cost.
Plus we’re throwing out some fancy terms (aeration, germination, etc. etc.), and if you’re not cognizant of them, you might find that not only will your seedlings sit there for days, but birds might just eat them.
And then you’re back to square one!
Long story short, the professionals manage lawn seeding maintenance best with access to top aeration equipment to break up your soil for best nutrient absorption — leading to the greenest grass you’ll ever see.
Which means it’s time to….
What is overseeding -- and why and how should I do it?
It sounds like it’s bad to “overseed” your lawn, but in actuality, it’s not. Overseeding describes the spreading of grass seed over an existing lawn for just one purpose: to thicken your turf.
But why thicken it?
This will happen to your lawn from time to time: heat, drought, other extremities.
Your grass will suffer due to the elements, getting thin and weak. Overseeding allows for more blades to grow amid the current ones that have thinned out some; and it’s a fast, inexpensive way to bring your lawn back to the way you want it to be without starting from scratch!
So how do you overseed a lawn?
Simply mow really short and then bag all the clippings. Rake the lawn to loosen the top soil layer, removing any dead grass and debris along the way. This will give your grass seed easy access to the soil.
What is reseeding and how is that different from overseeding?
Reseeding is a complete lawn renovation whereas overseeding is simply thickening up your lawn with added grass.
How do I get rid of thin or bare spots?
No need to overseed here! Just remove the dead grass in bare spots, loosen up the soil, liberally apply seedlings, and water deeply.
How long does grass seed last before it goes bad?
Grass seed stores in a cool, dry place will last for two to three years. But the longer it sits, the less seedlings will grow!
